I just typed this post up once then it disappeared after I posted it. There are days that Blogger and I do not get along. Don't remember exactly what was said in the original post. But here we go again.
The kids were on spring break last week and even though it was cold and snowy all week we still had a blast inside. Mr.Boo had his 8th Birthday on Tuesday and wanted a camping party. He had asked for a tent and sleeping bag and all the other goodies to go with a camp out. The only problem was it was 29 degrees F at night and not real warm during the day. So being the cool mom that I am...
We camped inside.
We went outside and a gathered firewood for a "camp fire" and then came back in and roasted marshmallows and made s'mores.
While outside, we also found some "Poles" to use for fishing. Then tied yarn on the pole, with a binder clip holding a magnet at the end. I had printed out fish images onto colored card stock and the kids cut them out. Then we put a paper clip on them so the magnet would pick them up. First we spread them out on the kitchen floor and fished. Then we decided since it was cold we should go ice fishing also and up the fish is a "pond" (laundry basket) and caught them that way too. We even had old boots and tires. Miss Tootie caught a cute little crab.
Boo wanted a rainbow cake decorated with M & M's. It has a fisherman in a pond, a tree, and some bears watching the fisherman.
Hello Birthday Boy!! Gotta love a good party hat!!
Here is the inside of the cake. Rainbow layers. Yummy!!
Then we made dirt cups. Of course they had to have gummy worms in them. Then Boo decided they needed bugs and added raisins. Then he proceeded to inform me that they were now healthier because of the raisins. Mom had to have a few rocks (chopped walnuts) as well.
We had been waiting all week for news on my new little nephew. He was due on Boo's birthday on Tuesday but he never came. Finally on Saturday they put his mommy in the hospital and induced her not once but twice. Guess what...nothing happened. Then last night around 6 they little fellow decided it was time to get the ball rolling. He arrived healthy and happy around 10:45pm.
I would like to introduce to you...

Welcome to the world sweet sweet baby boy!!
It has taken every thing I've got in me not to hop on the next plane to New York so I can go hold that sweet baby. They have promised a trip to see us next year though so maybe I can wait that long. I'm so proud of my brother!! He is a Fireman now and has a new sweet baby. Way to go Big Brother!!!
Auntie Mel has been working on lots of goodies for him. His blankie is almost finished.
I started with the darker color but I ran out. Hobby Lobby is having trouble getting their yarn in stock, even online, so I had to use a different color to finish it. So, it will be a half and half blanket. I love the texture it has to it and it is so soft. I made the pattern up so I may have it up for sale soon.
I made this yesterday. I have had a hard time not making a huge amount of goodies for him. I also see stuff in the store and have to pick it up.
Now I have to go finish this little fireman picture by putting his name and birthday on it. Than I have to see if I can fit it all in the box I had to go buy today. I started out with a med. flat rate box and overflowed it so I had to go buy a bigger box at the store this morning and wound up buying more goodies while I was there.
Feel free to link up what you have been up to below. I always love to see what everyone has been working on.
Hello and happy Monday everyone!! No Monday Funday this week as my kiddos are on spring break. We have big plans for this week. Today we will be going out for breakfast and coming home to do a little spring cleaning. Then tomorrow is a very BIG day. My sweet little baby boy will be 8!! I can't believe he is already going to be 8. Wow they grow up so fast! For his birthday we are going to have a big day of camping fun. Since it is still cold at night here, and because this will be his first time in a tent, we are camping inside. We will have a tent, Shh it's his present, s'mores or course, a cookout with the grandparents, and lots of fun camping adventures. I will try to take lots of pictures so I can share some of the fun with you. I have to come home and get his cake baked today. He wants a rainbow cake like this one.
Only his will have a camping theme on it and not all the stripes and dots. I couldn't find my round cake pans so I had to buy some new ones. I got lucky and found some really good ones on sale at Target for around $4.00.
Well I better be off and get ready to go have breakfast and a quick trip to the chiropractor so that I can get back up after sleeping in the floor tomorrow night. I hope all of you have a wonderful week!!

Happy Monday everyone! I've been busy working on baby goodies for my new nephew, more on that another day. He is due to be here any time now. Boo is excited because his b-day is the 19th and that is the due date for Owen. I did get some reading done this last week and wanted to share the book with you. If you click on the picture or title it will take you to Amazon to download a free copy. There is also another link for Barnes and Noble below.
This book is the 2003 Christy Award Winner for "Excellence In Christian Fiction."
Although Sam Bartlett enjoyed a successful horse-supplying business in Independence, Missouri, he was none-the-less envious of the hundreds of folks who passed through on their way west. Unable to stand it any longer, he convinces his wife, Judith, to pull up stakes, pack up their three-year-old-son, Tom, and accompany him on a journey that turns out to be much more than either of them could have imagined. The trek quickly develops into one of extreme hardship and survival that is further complicated by: dangerous weather, raging river crossings, unique personalities in the wagons, hostile Indian attacks, hunger, water shortage, vengeance, courage, romance and biblical principles. The determined traveler's ability to effectively defend themselves is pushed to the very limits as One Eye's marauding warriors harass and attack them repeatedly, with devastating results. With four of the trains beloved children having been taken captive, the inner strength of the beleaguered pioneers is sorely tested and a handful of men set out to recover the children. After valiant attempts to rescue their children fail miserable, they are forced to return empty-handed. Against all that is held sacred, the members of the wagon trail are forced to leave them behind while they do their best to evade the heathens and continue their struggle for survival with barely enough water left to keep the animals going. With all hope of ever seeing their children again now gone, it is the valor and ingenuity of the beautiful Comanche woman, Birdsong, that is yet to be heard from.
I love readying historical fiction. Especially the stories about the pioneers traveling west and settling new areas. I also love books that are set in the state or area that I am from. This book started out a little slow but after the first chapter it was great. These poor people go through a lot in this book. They have to deal with Indians of more than one tribe, weather, and down right mean wagon train members. They are strong though and fight hard to make it to their new homes. Reading these types of books makes you realize just how easy we have it now. It is the first in a series and there are quite a few more of them that I plan on getting to read next. If you would like to read it you can get it for free from Amazon.com. Just click on the picture or book title above to go there and download it. It is also available for free from Barnes and Noble and I'm sure other book retailers too.
So many rainbows and so much yumminess!! I think we will try to rainbow cake idea for Boo's birthday. Hope you enjoyed all of these lovelies. Now go make some of that jello up there. You know you want to. Link up your goodies below.
I have a new baby nephew on the way. He should be here sometime this month. My little man is excited because the little guy is due on his birthday. I have been making goodies for the baby off and on.
So far I have crocheted to washcloths this week and made him a little felt ball with his name on it. These are also available for sale (the balls) in the Storybook Felts Shop.
My brother is a volunteer fireman in NY so I had to make a little fireman to go on they babies wall. It will have his name and birthday embroidered on it also. (These may be added to the shop also so keep an eye out.. )
Now I am off to pick my kiddos up from school and then come home and crochet some more washcloths for little Owen. Hope you guys are having a great week.
